External storage devices: Reliable data carrier
External storage means a device that is capable of temporarily storing information for transporting from computer to computer. These devices do not permanently reside inside a computer. With a suitable portable storage option like an external hard drive or a thumb drive, it is also possible for students to carry their essential files with them as they leave home for the library.
For external storage, it is advantageous to use external hard drives as they offer large storage capacities. External hard drives can be small in size and portable, and also of the type that can sit next to a desktop computer. A portable hard drive can carry a huge amount of data. When looking for an external hard drive, make sure the model offers ports that can connect to your computer.
A thumb drive is a high-speed external storage device that is approximately the size of a pack of gum. It can store various types of files, including photos, word processing documents and music files. As thumb drives use flash memory, they do not contain delicate parts. That’s why they are less prone to damage and a good external storage option that is durable as well. One must weigh each option before zeroing on an external hard drive storage device.
