External HD: a nice data storage option
An external HD is extremely useful for those users who are required to handle on a regular basis huge files like complex graphics or videos. It gives users a portable and convenient option to back up the internal hard drives of their computers, or to store data when they move from one place to another. Over the years, the cost of an external HD has also come down bringing it within the reach of greater number of users. These are available in different sizes and types under different brand names made by leading companies.
An external HD can usually store the total contents of an average drive. As a result, it provides you with storage areas for major files that you can easily access as well. When the drive you work with has no more space for data storage, you can use an external HD to hold them and get easy access to them also with the use of either USB or Firewire connections.
An internal hard drive may be faster than an external HD, but the latter is also capable of data transfer at a reasonable speed allowing easy access from your main computer. If your external HD has Firewire connection, it will be faster than the one with USB connection. You must prevent power surges when using an external HD with an independent power source for file backup. Otherwise, your data can be lost. If you want to buy an external HDD, choose the right one that suits your own specific needs.
